Crane Helps Move CFD Engine Stuck After Parking Garage Collapse
According to reports, the fire engine was responding to a call from the nursing home next to the garage.
CHICAGO, IL — A crane from the Chicago Department of Fleet and Facility Management responded to a South Shore parking garage Tuesday afternoon to help remove part of a Chicago Fire Department engine that got stuck hours earlier when part of the two-story parking garage it was on top of collapsed. According to authorities, there were no signs of damage on cars parked in the garage's lower level, and no one was trapped due to the crash, WLS reported.
According to several reports, fire crews were reportedly responding to a nursing home call next to the two-story garage Tuesday morning when part of the structure collapsed. The engine's front bumper was left resting on part of the garage.
According to fire officials, crews emptied 500 gallons of water from the fire engine in an effort to take some weight off, before the crane was brought infor assistance.
