Chicago-Area Malls Closed For Thanksgiving 2021: List
Chicago-area malls will take turkey day off again this year, with Black Friday hours varying by location.
ILLINOIS — While the coronavirus changed a lot of things for the worse, holiday shopping hours don't seem to be among them.
Years ago, stores shut their doors on Thanksgiving, giving employees a hard-earned day off to spend with their families. Prior to the pandemic, that had been changing, with Thanksgiving increasingly supplanting Black Friday as the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season.
Not so, anymore. For the second year in a row, many malls will keep their doors shut for turkey day. Both Simon Property Group, the nation's largest mall operator, and Brookfield Properties, which operates several area malls, confirmed they will take off the fourth Thursday in November.

Major retailers — including Bed, Bath & Beyond, Best Buy, Costco, Kohl's, Target and Walmart — have said they will close as well, with Black Friday hours to be decided.
