🌱 CPD Officer Fatally Shot On Duty + Winter Weather Advisory

Here are the top three stories in Chicago today:

1. The Chicago Police Department is mourning the loss of 32-year-old officer Andres Vasquez Lasso who was killed on Wednesday. Lass was shot while on duty during an exchange of gunfire with a suspect who was accused of pursuing a woman with a firearm. The suspect was also wounded and was in the hospital as of Thursday evening. (ABC 7 News)
2. A winter storm is expected to bring snow, sleet, and freezing rain to parts of the Chicago area today. The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for several counties in northern Illinois, including Cook, DuPage, and Lake counties. The advisory is in effect from Friday morning until Saturday morning, with snow accumulations of three to six inches possible in some areas. Travel disruptions and difficult road conditions may be possible. (NBC Chicago)
3. A 38-year-old man was recently sentenced to 178 months in prison last week for a drug trafficking scheme operating in California, Iowa, and Illinois. Jovan Fedrick was involved in a large-scale methamphetamine operation where he and Brent White, of Chicago, traveled to California to have ice methamphetamine shipped to Chicago. White, 52, was sentenced to 135 months in prison in December 2021. (Department of Justice)
