  • Construction season has started. And the best news of all (for me, at least) is that bumpy Cottage Grove will be getting resurfaced on the South Side. Over the next two years, the city has plans for $1.4 billion worth of investments, including fixing streets, bridges, sidewalks, accessible crosswalk ramps, streetlights and traffic signals.   • A white teacher was removed from his classroom at Whitney Young Magnet High School after hanging a Black doll by its neck from a cord at the front of his classroom, and then argued with a Black colleague who was offended. (Fox32)
  • Mayor Lori Lightfoot is reportedly set to appoint former deputy inspector general Deborah Witzburg as the city’s independent watchdog. (WTTW)
  • A 28-year-old man was charged with attempted murder after injuring two police officers during a traffic stop on the West Side. James Callion pinned one officer against a squad car while trying to drive away from police. A gun battle ensued, and a second officer was shot in the hand, authorities said. (Patch)
  • Soho House is turning into a restaurant incubator. Winners of the social club's entrepreneurship competition comes with a six-month residency. And the first pop-up debuts April 20. (Eater)
