Fat Shallot Makes Best Food Trucks In US List
The husband-and-wife meal mobile was the only one in Chicago to be included in The Daily Meal's rankings.

CHICAGO, IL — A food truck run by a husband-and-wife team was the only meal mobile from Chicago to make a cuisine website's list of the 101 best food trucks in the country. The Fat Shallot, which is managed by Sam Barron and Sarah Weitz, was ranked No. 19 by The Daily Meal.
Started in 2013, the Fat Shallot offers "delicious, made-to-order sandwiches and sides" at its stops around Chicago, according to the restaurant on wheel's website. The Daily Meal — which called Barron and Weitz "a foodie match made in heaven" — pointed to Fat Shallot's grilled cheese, made with Muenster cheese, sautéed spinach and caramelized onions on sourdough, and buffalo chicken sandwich, as well as the truffle fries and spicy sesame fries, as the menu items customers should try.
To come up with its rankings, the website looked at its past lists and city guides, as well as other online food review sites, such as Yelp and TripAdvisor. House of Mac, a Miami good truck known, naturally, for its macaroni and cheese topped The Daily Meal's list. Go to the website to check out the complete list of 101 food trucks.

Barron and Weitz went to the same high school together, but the two didn't become an item until years after graduating. Together, they've catered pop-up dinners, private parties and other events around the city. Barron also has worked at Chicago's Everest Restaurant and the reopened Pump Room, where he recently worked as sous-chef.
