Georgia Man Charged In Suspicious Bags Left At Ogilvie Center

The 46-year-old suspect was arrested by Metra police after he returned to the station Wednesday night.

CHICAGO, IL —A 46-year-old Georgia man was arrested Wednesday night after he was accused of leaving two suspiscious bags at the Ogilvie Transportation Center earlier in the day. Rajender Chandani, of Hogansville, Georgia, was charged with disorderly conduct in the incident, and additional charges are pending, according to Metra.

Chandani was arrested by Metra police at around 8:20 p.m. when he returned to the station at 500 W. Madison St., the rail agency said. He was apprehended without incident, and Metra and Chicago police are investigating why he left the bags — which authorities determined posed no threat — near an information booth at the station.

Discovery of the briefcase earlier Wednesday forced Metra to stop trains arriving and departing for hours. Upon leaving the bags, Chandani allegedly told a station employee that he didn't need them anymore. The worker then called Metra police, who contacted the Chicago Police Department.
