Highland Park Fourth Of July Parade Massacre / Suspect Arrested

A 22-year-old Highwood man was arrested as a person of interest after six people were fatally shot and dozens of people were shot and wounded at Highland Park's 4th of July parade.

A witness reported seeing a shooter firing from street level, in a "military shooting position" while using a scope of a rifle, at one point reloading before firing again, Jonah Meadows reports.

And I'm proud to make my life in America and especially here in Chicago, Illinois -- the home of my family, my kids, my grandkids. But days like this, it's very, very hard to forget because I see this thing happening again and again and again. And to be a grandpa now, you've think like, where are we going to?"
  • Greg and Dana Ring got spots front and center at the Highland Park Independence Day parade. "Got there at 9 with our three kids, couldn’t believe our luck with what a good spot we got, And then just ‘pop, pop, pop, pop, pop." Greg Ring said. (WGN9)
  • Fourth of July festivities in other suburbs were cancelled Tuesday following the mass shooting in Highland Park. (WBEZ)
  • In Chicago, 44 people were shot, seven fatally over the holiday weekend. (ABC7)
