We all know how seriously cold it gets around Chicago in the winter. (The highs are around freezing.) But on rare occasions when arctic air from the North Pole is pulled down south, it causes especially frigid temperatures to certain parts of the United States. This is exactly what happened to the Chicago area during one particularly harsh winter.

While you’ve probably felt how cold the air can get when the temperatures plunge, you may not have tried the stunning hot water experiment that this Bartlett, Illinois, resident conducted. And since they did the demonstration in front of their Ring Video Doorbell, with a Ring Protect subscription, they were able to rewatch the spectacle.

On the count of three, they tossed a glass of hot water into the cold Illinois air. “Woah!” the onlookers exclaim as they watch the water freeze and the plume of snow instantly float away. “Did you see what happened?”

Luckily, with devices such as Ring Video Doorbell, you don’t have to go outside when it’s freezing to see what’s happening at your front door. Just get cozy, open up the Ring App and watch the snowflakes fall, or see and speak to your visitors without having to leave the warmth of your home.
