IL's Best Mexican Food Is At This Restaurant, New List Says

Cooking website LoveFood.com sorted through user reviews and accolades to determine which Mexican restaurant in Illinois is best.

CHICAGO — When it comes to indulging in south-of-the-border cuisine in Illinois, the best eats can be found at Topolobampo in Chicago, according to a new list.

To compile the feature showcasing the best Mexican restaurants in each state, cooking website LoveFood.com sorted through user reviews, awards, and accolades to determine which eatery residents flock to for their fix of tacos, fajitas or guacamole. They also took the first-hand experiences of employees into account when making the list.

According to the list, the James Beard Award–winning Topolobampo is worth the stop in the Windy City's River North neighborhood, courtesy of Chef Rick Bayless.

"The sleek dining room offers an innovative tasting menu that changes every seven or eight weeks and dishes are made with high quality, sustainable ingredients," the staff at LoveFood.com wrote. "Previous showstoppers include sopa Azteca (a tomato-based broth with pasilla chili and grilled chicken) and guinea hen mole. It’s on the expensive side, but worth the money."

Online reviews were similarly enthusiastic.

"This Michelin-starred restaurant represents the apex of Mexican fine dining," one Google reviewer wrote, while another remarked that "every aspect of the experience was phenomenal."
