1. Police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting at the Garfield Park library, WGN reports. A teenager and a 12-year-old boy were shot and injured Tuesday on South Pulaski outside the Henry E. Legler Regional Branch of the Chicago Public Library. (WGN)

2. A 93-year-old former Chicago police officer was mugged Friday morning in the South Loop, ABC reports. Police said several men attacked the victim and knocked him to the ground in the 1400 block of South Plymouth Court. (ABC)
3. Mayor Brandon Johnson announced a new role for the city of Chicago: deputy mayor of community safety. Illinois Justice Project Director Garien Gatewood will be the first person to serve in the new position, designed to “deliver on a vision for a stronger, safer city that addresses the root causes of violence.” (WGN)
4. The Biden administration announced that Chicago is one of six cities chosen for the “All INside” program to reduce homelessness in the U.S., the Tribune reports.
