CHICAGO — Metra’s Rock Island train service has started to resume Monday afternoon after the line suspended traffic earlier in the day after a morning derailment.

Chicago fire officials said there were no reported injuries, according to Fox Chicago.

Service resumed early Monday afternoon, albeit with delays due to the derailment, which involved Metra Rock Island train No. 704, which was carrying 600 passengers at the time. The train cars remained upright but the train car located behind the locomotive derailed near Clark Street and 15th Street, Metra said.

Trains were traveling in both directions but were delayed anywhere from 25 to 30 minutes as an investigation into Monday's incident continued. Metra officials said earlier on Monday that "extensive delays" were expected due to the derailment.

Trains traveling south from the La Salle Street Station resumed just after 1 p.m. and Metra reported that the Rock Island train 426 leaving from Joliet at 2:30 p.m. was expected to leave the station and make all scheduled stops.

Metra officials have not yet indicated what caused Monday's derailment.

Train 704 was scheduled to arrive at the LaSalle Street station in downtown Chicago around 8:30 a.m. but service will not be provided past 35th Street, Metra officials said.
