Obamas, Netflix Agree To Multi-Year Deal For Movies, TV Series
The agreement covers scripted and unscripted series, as well feature films and documentaries.

Watch out, Shonda Rhimes and Kevin Feige. You might have some TV and movie competition now that Netflix and the Obamas have agreed to a multi-year deal to produce films and series.
The agreement with former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama was announced Monday by the streaming TV and movie platform. Details of how long the deal lasts or how much Netflix is shelling out were not disclosed.
“Barack and Michelle Obama are among the world’s most respected and highly-recognized public figures and are uniquely positioned to discover and highlight stories of people who make a difference in their communities and strive to change the world for the better,” Netflix's CCO Ted Sarandos said in a statement.

"[W]e hope to cultivate and curate the talented, inspiring, creative voices who are able to promote greater empathy and understanding between peoples, and help them share their stories with the entire world," Barack Obama said in a statement.
Barack Obama is no stranger to being a part of Netflix content. Earlier this year, he appeared in the debut episode of David Letterman's series, "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction."
"Barack and I have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire us, to make us think differently about the world around us, and to help us open our minds and hearts to others,” Michelle Obama added.
Monday's annoucement did not mention what the first series or movies the Obamas would be releasing or when viewers could expect content from the former president and first lady. According to a New York Times report in March about the deal before it was finalized, the Obamas wanted to avoid two areas in the content they produced:
- directly responding to Trump or conservative critics.
- creating the left wing equivalent to conservative media such as Fox News.
Netflix has 125 million subscribers and is available in 190 countries.
