Plane Almost Hits Jet In Near-Miss At Midway

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.

CHICAGO — A Southwest Airlines plane nearly struck a business jet Tuesday morning at Chicago Midway Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The jet entered the runway without authorization around 8:50 a.m., causing the crew of Flight 2504 out of Omaha to initiate a go-around, the agency said.

Video of the near-miss posted by the X account Airport Webcams shows the plane appearing to fly in for a landing when the jet crosses the runway and the plane adjusts, navigating up at an angle to avoid a collision.

President Donald Trump took to social media to praise Southwest's pilots.

"GREAT JOB BY THE SOUTHWEST PILOTS IN CHICAGO," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "A NEARLY TRAGIC CLOSE CALL. PERHAPS SUSPEND THE PILOTS LICENSE OF THE OTHER PLANE, WHO MUST HAVE BEEN 'SLEEPING!' "
