Rideshare Driver Shot In Attempted Carjacking: Chicago PD
The 51-year-old driver refused to get out of his car after police said three suspects took his phone and then shot the man in the chest.
CHICAGO — A 51-year-old rideshare driver remains hospitalized in critical condition after he was shot following an attempted carjacking in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood, police said on Thursday.
The driver was shot in the chest by suspects who attempted to carjack the driver in the 900 block of North LeClaire Avenue just after 10 p.m. on Wednesday, police said. Police said that three men approached the car after the driver had dropped off a passenger.
Police said that the suspects demanded the driver’s phone and ordered him to get out of the car. When the man refused to get out of the car, one of the suspects shot the driver, who was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition, police said.

Police said that no one is in custody in connection with the incident.
