- Jussie Smollett's legal team has filed an emergency motion asking the Illinois Appellate Court to pause the former "Empire" actor's 150-day jail sentence as he appeals his conviction on five felony counts of disorderly conduct for faking a hate crime against himself and lying about it to police. (Patch)
- Pervis Spann, a disc jockey, concert promoter, radio station and nightclub owner — who has been credited being first to first call Aretha Franklin the "Queen of Soul" and B.B. King the "King of Blues" — has died. Spann died Monday of complications of Alzheimer's disease. He was 89 years old. (CBS2)
- There will be no "mass firings" of city employees who haven't complied with City Hall's vaccine mandate, Mayor Lori Lightfoot says. Still, a dozen aldermen called a special city council meeting to call on public health officials to consider "natural immunity" to coronavirus as an alternative to vaccines. (WTTW)
- About two dozen people have announced plans to run for the Illinois’ 1st Congressional District being vacated by retiring U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush, who announced he will not seek a 16th term in office. (WBEZ)
- The Chicago Bears have agreed to a three-year deal that would pay former Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi $40.5 million, according to ESPN. Ogunjobi, 27, put together the best season of his 5-year career in 2021, recording seven sacks and 12 tackles for loss to help the Bengals reach the Super Bowl. (Patch)
