'RVs For MDs' Gets Quarantine Space To Coronavirus Health Workers

RVs For MDs is a group aimed at connecting front-line health care workers with RV owners who will lend a space to self-quarantine.

CHICAGO, IL — As front-line health care workers continue in the fight against the new coronavirus, nearly 20,000 people have joined a Facebook group aimed at helping those workers keep their families safe from exposure to the virus.

RVs 4 MDs was created March 24 to contact front-line health care workers who need to self-quarantine and match them with RV owners willing to help by lending the use of their vehicles, saving thousands of loved ones from being exposed to the virus.

Downers Grove Patch neighbor Kathy Aalrust reached out to Patch on Saturday morning to share some information about the organization. Aalrust said a lot of hospitals in the suburbs and in Chicago might not be aware of the new group.

"This group has spread nationally with volunteers who are reaching out to help match RV owners who can provide accommodations to medical personnel," Aalrust said.

The group asks anyone who has an RV or camper to lend to post a photo, their city and state on the Facebook page, and to read the group disclaimer currently pinned to the page.

Health care providers in need of an RV/camper for temporary living space should post a comment requesting an RV, with details on why it's needed, in addition to their city and state.

All RV owners and health care workers in need should submit this form; the group said it will work to set up those matches.

"Please invite all health care workers in need and those with RV connections! We can save thousands from exposure!! Please bear with us as we work to respond to and match everyone!" the group wrote.

The group also asks anyone who wishes to volunteer to coordinate efforts in their area and/or help the matchmaking leaders to join the RVs 4 MDs Volunteer Group.
