Here are the top three stories today in Chicago:
- Larry Snelling was named by Mayor Brandon Johnson as his top choice for Superintendent of Police. Snelling is 54 years old, and currently serves as a counterterrorism chief. Snelling’s appointment by Mayor Johnson still must be confirmed by the City Council, and a public hearing ahead of official confirmation is also expected. (Subscription: Chicago Sun-Times)
- Rapper Lil Durk's weekend concert at Chicago's United Center was derailed after police descended on the venue following reports of an active shooter. As fans ran to the exits, some unruly attendees started fights and looted the merchandise stands while police investigated the alleged shooter situation. CPD confirmed the reports were a false alarm—no arrests were made, and no injuries were reported. (Complex)
- On Sunday evening, four people, including a 17-year-old boy, were injured in a shooting in the Washington Park neighborhood. While it's unclear what led up to the shooting, police confirmed injuries for the four victims, who were self-transported to the hospital.
Additional information about what led up to the incident has yet to be released. (NBC Chicago)
