- An 18-year-old accused of killing a Chicago police officer Andrés Vásquez Lasso has been held without bail after appearing in court for the first time. Steven Montano is facing charges for the fatal shooting and two misdemeanors. Prosecutors claim Montano pointed a gun at the officer and turned towards him despite verbal commands to stop running. (NBC Chicago)
- A 78-year-old woman was killed and seven others injured in a crash on Chicago's Northwest Side. The Tuesday evening incident in the 3400 block of West Peterson Avenue involved an SUV and a vehicle driven by an 18-year-old. Two children were taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital. The accident is still under investigation as of Wednesday. (Chicago Patch)
- The Chicago Board of Education has proposed changes to increase transparency and community engagement by shifting towards public briefings on board agenda items prior to scheduled votes. Currently, board members are briefed behind closed doors, but moving forward, these briefings will be held publicly a week before board meetings. Additionally, the board will begin holding more monthly meetings out in the community to increase engagement. (WTTW News)
