Here are the top three stories today in Chicago:
- Country music star Tim McGraw has revealed his 2024 "Standing Room Only" tour, consisting of 33 cities, beginning in March next year, with a performance at Chicago's United Center on May 31, 2024. The tour, named after his upcoming album, will feature Carly Pearce as a special guest, and tickets will be available for sale on Aug. 4 at 10:00 a.m. (WGN9)
- Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias announced a "Skip-the-Line" program for the state's busiest DMVs, offering extended hours and appointment scheduling to reduce wait times. The program, starting on Sep. 1, will require appointments for certain services like REAL ID, driver's licenses, and in-car driving tests at 44 busy DMV locations, while vehicle-related services can be availed without appointments. Additionally, all DMVs in Illinois will extend their hours of operation, with 16 locations open on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. See the details at the link. (NBC Chicago)
- The family of 21-year-old Marine Melvin Guzman, whose body was found in Lake Michigan, is seeking donations to cover his funeral expenses. Guzman, known for his hard work and discipline, was recovered at North Avenue Beach and pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. A GoFundMe started by his family has received about $6,000 as of Jul. 28 towards its $8,000 goal. (Chicago Patch)

- Golf Digest recently released a list of the top 100 public golf courses in the U.S., with 28 Midwest spots making the cut, including several in Wisconsin, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, Indiana, and one in Illinois. Cog Hill Golf & Country Club: Dubsdread in nearby Lemont was ranked at No. 65, receiving four stars from panelists, but dropped from its previous year's placement of 56. (NBC Chicago)
- The Chicago Department of Family and Support Services Resiliency 2.0 program is offering a one-time, $500 relief payment to eligible domestic workers and undocumented residents. Applications will be available for submission until Jul. 31. (City of Chicago – Government via Facebook)
- The Canadian developer, Onni Group, is proposing to build three residential towers on the southern tip of Goose Island in Chicago, adding nearly 2,500 rental units to the riverfront. The proposed project would occupy the seven-acre property at 700 W. Chicago Ave. and feature apartment buildings rising as high as 57 stories with a total of 2,451 units.
