Here are the top three stories in Chicago today:
- This past Tuesday at the University of Illinois, two students were assaulted with pellet guns on the downstate Champaign campus. The incident happened when the students were walking at the intersection of Armory Avenue and Wright Street just off the main quad around 7:00 p.m. A black sedan pulled up with three masked individuals who opened fire on the students. An email alert was immediately sent out by the university alerting those in the area of the incident. The two students were not injured nor did they receive medical care. If you have any information surrounding the incident, please contact the University of Illinois Police. (CBS News)
- For the first time in the 57-year history of the Illinois Junior Golf Association, a tournament will be hosted in the city of Chicago. On Monday, Jul. 10 starting at 8:00 a.m., a junior golf tournament will be taking place at the Jackson Park and South Shore Golf Courses. Golfers will be split into one of four divisions based on ages ranging from 10-13 at South Shore and 14-18 at Jackson Park. Golfers will have the perfect opportunity to test their skills and compete against the best in their age groups. (Chicago Sun-Times)
- Earlier this week, residents in northwest Chicago experienced some water woes as around 1,200 Aqua Illinois customers lost water on both Monday and Tuesday. It is believed that over the past two days, there were some pipe leaks somewhere in the line and that is what caused the outage. Crews are working to find these leaks and hopefully completely solve the issue soon. Dozens of people lined up Tuesday afternoon at Hawthorn Woods to get bottled water, in the meantime while this is being worked out, it is recommended to try and preserve water. (CBS News)
