- Gregory Haddad was arrested by deputies from the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force just before boarding a flight to Chicago on Tuesday. Haddad was wanted for threatening a victim in an aggravated assault case that is still pending in Chicago, according to investigators. The Indian River County Sheriff's Office, of Florida, in collaboration with the Orlando Fugitive Task Force, tracked Haddad to the Orlando airport area and arrested him. (WPEC)
- Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs returned $22.7 million in unclaimed property to its rightful owners; over 11,000 claims were paid in March. Since 2015, the office has returned $1.6 billion. Illinois currently holds over $3.5 billion in unclaimed assets, including bank accounts, safe deposit boxes, life insurance benefits, and unused rebate cards. (WLS-TV)
- The Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) and the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) have collaborated to allow individuals in IDOC facilities to submit pre-release Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) applications. The program started as a pilot at Logan Correctional Center in July 2020, with the aim of providing better access to SNAP benefits for formerly incarcerated individuals upon their release. Within ten days of their release, IDOC staff help the individual with the completion and submission of a SNAP application, which is followed by a telephone interview by IDHS. (Lawndale News)
