Watch Chance The Rapper As A Lyft Driver To Help Chicago Schools
VIDEO: The Grammy winner went 'undercover' as a ride-share driver to encourage riders to donate to his New Chance Fund.
CHICAGO — It might not help Chance the Rapper become an EGOT award-winner (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) — or even a GMOTCh award-winner (Grammy, MTV Video Music, Oscar, Teen Choice). But the Chicago native's latest gig could earn some safe-driving accolades, as well as money for Chicago Public Schools arts programs.
Chance recently filled in as a Lyft driver, ferrying customers of the ride service around Chicago. The hip-hop artist also was trying to drum up money for the New Chance Fund, a program set up with his Social Works nonprofit group that gives financial support to art education programs at CPS.
Lyft passengers can help out by using the company's app and selecting the Round Up & Donate feature, which allows riders to round up a fare to the next dollar and put it toward the charity of their choice. The partnership between Chance and Lyft began last year.

While most of Chance's customers didn't recognize their famous driver — the Grammy winner was sporting wraparound shades, went by his middle name ("Jon," not "the") and was without a baseball cap, a crucial accessory to his signature look — one rider in the video, which was posted online Monday, wasn't fooled.
"Do you know who you are?" said a passenger as he entered the vehicle and shook hands with Chance.

"I just met Chance the Rapper. I'm kinda (messed) up right now," the passenger added later.

Chance had a little fun with the riders who weren't aware they were being escorted by a high-profile rap star. As he talked with the customers, he would ask what music they liked and occasionally use wordplay to drop in his stage name.
"I love Chance the Rapper. Kanye …" shaking his hand in a "so-so" fashion as he told one passenger who unknowingly listed her driver as one of her favorite hip-hop artists, along with West.
"I'm not a super fan [of Chance the Rapper], but I know he's got a good looking lady, and he's getting married," he said to another rider who explained why she liked Kendrick Lamar.
Over the summer, Chance proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Kirsten Corley, during a Fourth of July backyard barbecue. On Monday, he tweeted from his engagement party.

Chance began helping the financially struggling Chicago school system in March 2017 when he donated $1 million to the district. He described the donation as "a call to action" and challenged major national corporations and celebrities to step up with contributions.
The rapper's Social Works initiative also gives $10,000 to a Chicago public elementary or high school for every $100,000 raised for CPS.
