1. More than 40 people were shot in Chicago over the weekend, according to the police department. One person was killed and six were injured in a shooting Saturday at a party in Austin. (WGN)

2. More than 260 new police officers graduated Monday in a ceremony at Navy Pier. “I will have your back,” Mayor Brandon Johnson told the class. “If we’re gonna have a society that we all can be proud of and a society we can raise our families in, it’s gonna take all of us.” (Paid source: Sun-Times)

3. The 32nd annual James Beard Restaurant and Chef Award winners were announced Monday night in Chicago. Local chefs and establishments won several awards, including Emerging Chef for Virtue’s Damarr Brown. Kasama’s Tim Flores and Genie Kwon won in the Great Lakes category for Best Chefs. The city is set to host the awards through 2026. (FOX/BBC)

4. The Field Museum unveiled a new 46-foot dinosaur cast Friday. The “Spinosaurus” dinosaur “lived about 95 million years ago, roaming the rivers of Northern Africa,” according to NPR. (WBEZ)
