White Sox Could Leave Chicago: Report

A report that the Southsiders could leave Guaranteed Rate Field comes amid the firing of the executive vice president, general manager.

CHICAGO — Could the Chicago White Sox leave the South Side behind? It's possible, according to a report published Tuesday by Crain's Chicago Business.

At a time when the Chicago Bears are also exploring all options — whether it's remaining in Chicago or moving forward with plans for a massive stadium in Arlington Heights or going to another suburb — it appears the Sox could also be pondering a move.

Crain's cited sources saying Sox majority owner and chairman Jerry Reinsdorf is considering moving the team out of Guaranteed Rate Field when its lease expires in six years, or potentially selling the franchise. If the team does move, it's possible the Sox could relocate to the suburbs — or even out of Illinois entirely and move to Nashville, the report says.

Meanwhile, Reinsdorf announced Tuesday that the team has parted ways with executive vice president Ken Williams and general manager Rick Hahn.

The 87-year-old Reinsdorf called the firings "an incredibly difficult decision," describing Williams as "like a son to me."
