CHICAGO — White Sox Manager Rick Renteria has been quarantined while awaiting coronavirus test results., the team reported on Twitter.

Renteria woke up with nasal congestion and a slight cough. Team doctors sent Renteria to a Cleveland hospital for a coronavirus test. He will remain at the team hotel and not coach today's game in Cleveland.

Bench coach Joe McEwing will manage team while Renteria is away, White Sox general manager Rick Haan said in a statement.

In a Zoom call with reporters before the White Sox were scheduled to play in Cleveland agains the Indians, McEwing said that Renteria "feels good, feels great (and is) just being very cautious."

The news about Renteria's quarantine came hours after the Miami Marlins home opener against the Baltimore Orioles was cancelled due to a coronavirus outbreak.

CBS Sports reported 11 Marlins players, as well as a few coaches, tested positive for COVID-19.

Major League Baseball issued the following statement about the Marlins coronavirus outbreak:

"Tonight's scheduled games between the Miami Marlins and the Baltimore Orioles at Marlins Park and the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Yankees at Citizens Bank Park have been postponed while Major League Baseball conducts additional COVID-19 testing. The members of the Marlins' traveling party are self-quarantining in place while awaiting the outcomes of those results. Major League Baseball has been coordinating with the Major League Baseball Players Association; the Marlins; the Orioles; the Marlins' weekend opponent, the Phillies; and Club medical staffs, and will continue to provide updates as appropriate."

Asked about the outbreak Monday afternoon before the Sox' game was postponed due to inclement weather, McEwing responded, “Your thoughts and your prayers go out to everybody involved. Hopefully they’re healthy. We’re just focusing on what we’re doing, taking the correct measures to keep everyone as safe as we possibly can. As an organization and training staff we’ve done a pretty good job so far.”

The White Sox and Indians are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Tuesday.
