- "Racism and Islamophobia have no place whatsoever in our society," the Ricketts family, owners of the Cubs, said in a statement aimed at salvaging their hopes of buying the Premiere League soccer club, Chelsea. - A federal judge sentenced former state senator Eddie Acevedo to six months in prison for cheating on his taxes. The sentence is the result of the same federal corruption investigation that led to former House Speaker Michael Madigan's indictment. (NBC5)

- Next school year will start earlier for Chicago Public School kids. The Chicago Board of Education voted to move up the start of school to Aug. 22. (Chalkbeat)
- After a monthlong delay, the City Council signed off on a $1.675 million settlement with five innocent people who were dragged out of their car by police officers in 2020. Mia Wright will receive $650,000 in damages, while the other four people who were in the car with her will get $243,750 each, Todd Fuerer reports. (CBS2)
