CHICAGO — A 30-year-old woman who had gotten out of her car on the Dan Ryan after being involved in a minor crash was killed early Tuesday morning after being struck by another vehicle, according to the Illinois State Police.
The accident took place around 2:25 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the Dan Ryan near Chinatown between 18th Street and Interstate 55, police said. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to fire officials, who arrived after the woman was struck after being involved in the other crash.
The Illinois State Police said that traffic was shut down for hours on the expressway and police and fire crews investigated the crash. Northbound traffic was pushed back due to what NBC Chicago characterized as onlooker delays.
