60-Year-Old Man Dead After Chicago Heights House Fire: Officials
According to fire officials, the man was found Wednesday on the second floor of a house on Portland Avenue in full cardiac arrest.
CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — A 60-year-old Ford Heights man is dead after a fire Wednesday morning, officials told Patch.
According to authorities, firefighters were called to a house fire at 1410 Portland Avenue at around 4:25 a.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, officials said they discovered the fire started in the basement of the two-story building and searched the structure for residents.
On the second floor of the home, emergency personnel found 60-year-old Dennis Perkins in full cardiac arrest. Paramedics told reporters he was unconscious and likely suffering from smoke inhalation. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, Perkins was taken to Franciscan Health where he was later pronounced dead shortly before 6 a.m.

Chicago Heights Fire Chief Jeffery Springer told Patch the building sustained "excessive" smoke damage.
