
The orienteering unit traveled three hours west, near Freeport, Illinois, to compete in the sixth annual Freeport Pretzel Orienteering meet Saturday, Oct. 22.
Orienteering is one of four sports the unit competes in. The meet took place at Canyon Camp which is a Boy Scout camp.
In orienteering the competitors are given a compass, map and a whistle then sent into the forest. There were 12 points the kids needed to find before running for the finish line.

Bloom Trail's team of four returned in a combined time of 8 hours and 32 minutes.
A number of teams from Northern Illinois competed in the event and competition was intense. The cadets were fortunate that the weather conditions were good and running was not as difficult.

The next meet will be in Harms Woods near Glenview.
