Today, more people than ever before can no longer afford to own a home with a traditional mortgage loan. At the same time, there are more and more families living in sub-standard conditions or paying way too much for rent. There is an alternative and it is offered by Habitat for Humanity Chicago South Suburbs.
“Our program is designed to provide an opportunity for home ownership to hard working families who otherwise would live in sub-standard conditions,” noted affiliate executive director David Tracy. “Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with zero percent interest, affordable loans. Habitat for Humanity is not a giveaway program. In addition to monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor (sweat equity) into building their Habitat house and the homes of others.”
This year, Habitat for Humanity Chicago South Suburbs is partnering with the Cook County Bureau of Economic Development to acquire and rehab foreclosed properties.

“We will have a number of homes in Park Forest and Lansing, and depending on the scope of work many of these homes will be ready for occupancy very soon,” added Tracy. “So, now we are scheduling an orientation session for anyone who might be interested in participating in our program”. The session will cover the application process and what it takes to qualify.
