Bloom 206 Hires Orland Hills Mayor as Assistant Superintendent

In a 5-2 vote, the Board of Education approved hiring Orland Hills Mayor Kyle Hastings as an assistant superintendent.

Despite being , Hastings touted his experience in the position as an asset.

"I'm good with numbers," Hastings said. "In the education field, in the meet and exceeds, I have had some of the highest numbers."

In Hastings' last year with Bellwood, more than 60 percent of students were meeting and exceeding standards in reading and mathematics.

Bloom 206 board member Robert Rossi and board president Henry Drake had little to say about Hastings before the meeting, according to Sun-Times Media. Rossi added that he was hoping to table the vote, but was not successful.

Hastings' official title is Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction.
