First Human West Nile Virus Cases Reported
The Illinois Department of Public Health has confirmed the first human West Nile virus cases reported in Illinois for 2011 in Cook County and downstate Illinois.
The Cook County Health Department reported a man in his 80s became ill earlier this month and the Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department reported a man in his 30s became ill in July.

"Collective" Comes to Union Street
in Chicago Heights begins its late summer and fall schedule of exhibits with Collective, its annual presentation of work from the gallery’s resident Studio and Guild Artists.
The show promises to maintain the high standards Union Street has been setting all year with its varied fare of solo shows by Patricia Moore and Sergio Gomez, several national and regional juried shows, a culturally rich exhibit of treasures from Bhutan, and Homewood-Flossmoor High School’s spring exhibit of AP students’ work.

Prairie State Offers Free GED Preparation and ESL Classes
The Adult Education Program at is offering free English as a Second Language, Spanish General Education Preparation and Citizenship Training classes beginning Monday, Aug. 29, at the PSC Adult Training and Outreach Center, located on the main campus at 202 S. Halsted St. in Chicago Heights.
