Chicago Heights Native, Marian Catholic Grad Remembered
Michael Coppotelli was born and raised in Chicago Heights.

Michael Coppotelli, 70, of Galena, Illinois and beloved husband for 40 years of Carla Ann Coppotelli (nee Omberg), died on July 12, 2023. Michael was born on January 8, 1953 in Chicago Heights, the son of the late Joseph and Lucy Coppotelli. Growing up in a family with loving parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings and many cousins helped develop Michael’s love for family, food, wine, conversation, laughs and compassion of others. He graduated in 1971 from Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights where he played football for 4 years. He lived in Rockford, IL for approximately 40 years, where he and his wife Carla owned and operated many restaurants until moving to Galena over 10 years ago.
Mike loved to play and watch golf; he could hit the ball a mile when he was on his game. A die-hard Bears and Cubs fan, he finally got to witness his team win the World Series. Mike was an avid reader who enjoyed many different topics and genres from world religions, sports, autobiographies, science fiction, health, and philosophy. Michael was a down-to-earth, giving and friendly person who loved to laugh. He showed his love through his kindness, warmth, and generosity to all that knew him. He will be missed by friends and family because he touched so many people’s lives in so many ways.
Michael is survived by his wife Carla, his sister Patricia Faso (late Joseph) of Glenwood, IL, sister Marian Tenhoopen (Paul) of Naples, FL, brother Joseph Coppotelli (Denise) of Downers Grove, IL, mother-in-law Patricia Omberg (late Donald) of Galena, IL, sister-in-law Caryn Omberg of Galena, IL and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A memorial will be held on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 11:30 a.m. at San Rocco Oratory, 315 East 22nd St. in Chicago Heights, followed by a funeral at 1 p.m.
