Chicago Heights Police Blotter: Argument over a Cell Phone Turns Bloody
Chicago Heights police reports, Feb. 6-8

Disturbance
Amir Moore, 20, of the 200 block of West 16th Street, was charged with battery after police said he attacked a 20-year-old man in the waiting room of St. James Hospital. A security guard told police Moore started a verbal dispute with the man in the emergency room, according to reports. Moore jumped the victim from behind and started punching him and pulling his hair, police said.
Theft
Police said a 25-year-old Steger man is suspected of stealing $200 from the glove compartment of his mother's vehicle when she gave him a ride to the Citgo in the 1600 block of Chicago Road.

Michael O. Akinpelu, 23, of the 400 block of East End Avenue in Calumet City, was arrested and charged with driving on a suspended license, improper lane use and no proof of insurance. Police said he was stopped near the intersection of Edgewood Avenue and West 14th Street after swerving over the white dotted line three times.
"I Don't Drink"

Michael P. Drake, 44, of the 1500 block of Pine Trace Court in University Park, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police said he was stopped near the intersection of Chicago Road and 15th Street in connection with speeding and crossing over the middle dividing line. Police said during the sobriety tests Drake kept repeating, "I don't drink," but his breath sample reading was .119.
Burglary
A 29-year-old woman told police her 42-inch flat-screen television and Playstation 3 system were stolen after someone broke into her house through a window sometime between Feb. 3 and Feb. 7.
sunday, feb. 6Crowbar Assault
Police are looking for three people who they said beat a 23-year-old University Park man with a crowbar in the 1900 block of Concord Drive after an altercation over a cell phone at Knockouts Sports Bar in Matteson. The victim was covered in blood and had a laceration on the right side of his head, according to reports. The man was taken to St. James Hospital, but there was no word on his condition at the time of the report. A second victim, a 22-year-old woman, also from University Park, told police the offenders struck her repeatedly while she was trying to help the first victim.
Honest DUI
Brandon T. Matthews, 24, of the 200 block of Park Ave in Steger, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police said they stopped him near the intersection of Glengate Avenue and Chicago Road in connection with driving between two lanes at night with his headlights off. When asked if he had been drinking, Matthews replied, "I ain't gonna lie. I drank a 12-pack of beer," according to reports.
Damaged Property
A 23-year-old man reported someone broke the passenger side window of his vehicle in the 500 block of West 15th Place between 11 p.m. Feb. 5 and 1:30 p.m. Feb. 6.
Residential Burglary
A 53-year-old man told police his laptop computer was stolen after someone kicked in the front door of his home sometime between 3:20 and 7:44 p.m. Feb. 6. The man said a 26-inch TV also had been removed from the home but he found it in his backyard, according to police.
