Chicago Heights' Summer Street Sweeping Program Starts Monday

See when the streets in your area will be swept this month.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — Chicago Heights residents may notice cleaner streets this month. Mayor David Gonzalez announced Wednesday that the city will be enabling its Summer Street Sweeping Program this August.

The program is put in place to provide street maintenance, remove debris and sediment from street surfaces and clears catch basins, according to Gonzalez.

The street department has divided the city into five sections, with work to be done by Elgin Sweeping Services, Inc.

Beginning Monday, the area between State Street and East End Avenue will be cleaned, and the process will run through Wednesday. On Tuesday, the block between East End Avenue and Dixie Highway, along with Edgewood Avenue and 28th Street, will begin.

On Aug. 17, street sweeping will be done between Edgewood Avenue and Western Avenue; up to Lincoln Highway. On Aug. 20, cleaning will begin between Dixie Highway, Lincoln Highway and Joe Orr Road. Lastly, on Aug. 25, the area between Joe Orr Road and Holbrook Road will begin.

"Please also be advised that street parking will be restricted while street sweeping is being preformed in your neighborhood," Gonzalez said. "This allows the sweeping machines to gain complete access for best results. These parking restrictions do not apply on weekends."
