Chicago Heights Teen Arrested In Matteson Man's Murder: Police

Police said a teen was charged as an adult in connection to the murder of Zackary Sallis, who was found shot to death in a Park Forest lot.

PARK FOREST, IL — Police have arrested a 17-year-old Chicago Heights boy in connection to the murder of a 23-year-old Matteson man who was found shot to death in a parked car last week, police told Patch.

Zackary Sallis was pronounced dead April 10 at around 6:30 p.m. in a parking lot at 3466 Western Avenue. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, Sallis's death was ruled a homicide as a result of "multiple gunshot wounds."

Park Forest police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force said in a joint statement that the arrested teenager was charged as an adult and is currently in custody at Cook County Juvenile Detention Facility facing one charge of first degree homicide.

"This was not a random crime and the victim and offender were known to one another," police said in a social media statement. "This case continues to be actively investigated and is not concluded."

Officials also said help from Park Forest residents helped lead to the arrest.
