Crete Township Shooting Victim Recovering, Investigation Ongoing: Will County Sheriff
Another victim, who died from his injuries, has not yet been identified.
CRETE TOWNSHIP, IL — A pregnant woman is in critical but stable condition after being found shot inside a car Tuesday in Crete Township, the Will County Sheriff's Office said.
At around 9:15 p.m. Sept. 2, Will County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 2300 block of East Exchange Street in Crete Township for a reported shooting.
Deputies found a black sedan parked in the roadway with multiple bullet holes and shattered windows. A preliminary search of the scene revealed approximately 40 shell casings in the area.

Two people were found inside the vehicle, both suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The female driver, identified only as a 25-year-old pregnant woman, sustained gunshot wounds to the head and hand, while the male passenger was struck in the hip and buttock, the sheriff's office said. Deputies provided lifesaving aid until medical personnel arrived and took both victims to a local hospital.
Shortly after arriving at the hospital, the male victim died of his injuries, police said.

The male victim's identity is being withheld by the Lake County, Indiana Coroner pending notification of next of kin.
The sheriff's office said it continues to actively investigate the shooting.
Based on preliminary findings, detectives said they believe the shooting was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
