D170's Return To In-Person School Plan Shared

The school district is aiming to have in-person learning five days a week. Mitigation measures must be followed.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — Chicago Heights School District 170 has laid out its mitigation measures for the upcoming 2021-22 school year for students and staff to follow. The measures come in an effort to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

The CDC, IDPH, and ISBE, strongly recommend that masks be worn by all individuals who are not fully vaccinated. According to the current plan, COVID-19 prevention strategies can be adjusted or changed based on outbreaks, increasing trends in the school/community, local vaccination levels, and the feasibility of these strategies.

D170 said the following are proven and effective strategies for stopping the spread of COVID-19, that the district will be implementing:

  • Sick students and staff must remain at home.
  • Masks are required to be worn by all unvaccinated staff and students at all times except when eating.
  • Maintain social distancing, especially when eating.
  • Complete your daily health certification.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Wash hands often.
  • Follow all posted signage.
  • Masks will continue to be worn by unvaccinated staff and students
  • Masks are required to be worn on school buses.
  • Students and staff should use their own masks (and bring a spare).
  • School District 170 will have a supply of disposable masks for those students
    or staff who don’t have one or forget theirs at home.
  • Additional PPE will be available for educators as needed.
  • District 170 will continue to monitor IDPH/CDC guidance on loosening
    restrictions.
