CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — As the school year winds down, seniors at the District 206 school district have plenty to be proud about. Take a look at why they're celebrating more than just never stepping foot into high school again, and see how your neighborhood schools are stacking up.

Bloom High School

  • 376 graduates.
  • Valedictorian: Sergio Gonzalez.
  • Salutatorian: Deanna Nila.
  • The Class of 2019 was awarded $17.2 million in scholarships.
  • 8 students graduated with an associate's degree in information technology.
  • 53 Early College Initiative students graduated with 4 college courses completed.
  • 14 students graduated with a Certified Nursing Assistant certificate.
  • 6 students completed barber college.
  • Isaiah Bowman Jones is a Chick Evans Scholar who will attend the University of Illinois with a full scholarship. He is also an ECI graduate, and he completed barber college.
  • 10 students enlisted into the U.S. military.
  • Students will attend top-named universities, such as: University of Michigan, University of Illinois, Alabama A&M University,Hampton University, University of Arizona, Xavier University of Louisiana, Ball State University and Illinois State University.

  • 301 graduates.
  • Valedictorian: Nicholas Ruffolo.
  • Salutatorian: Caitlyn Nardi.
  • 42 students each earned 12-14 college credits through the Early College Institute at Prairie State College.
  • 10 students earned their Certified Nursing Assistant certification at Prairie State College.
  • One student earned an Emergency Medical Technician certification at Prairie State College.
  • Three students will complete licensure for a barbering certificate with 1,500 hours earned credit hours through Legacy Barber College.
  • One student earned a scholarship to Universal Technical Institute.
  • Nine students are Illinois State Scholars
  • Nicholas Ruffolo, the valedictorian, earned the Chancellor’s Fellow Scholarship at University of Illinois at Chicago.
  • Alex Torres earned a full tuition and a room-and-board merit scholarship at the University of Chicago.
  • Deja Scott earned the Presidential Scholarship at Loyola University.
  • 95 percent of the seniors graduated with a career plan.
  • 75 percent of students are going to a two- or four-year college or trade school, or will enter the military.
  • Notable colleges they will attend include: University of Chicago, University of Illinois, Urbana, Loyola and Spellman College.
