Father of Wounded Police Officer: 'He's Been a Miracle'

The father of a Park Forest police officer who was shot in the head this past March addresses the media.

After three difficult months, the father of a Park Forest police officer who was shot in the head while on duty is sharing details not only about the path to recovery, but his steadfast support for his son's choice to follow in his own footsteps.

Country Club Hills Police Officer William Jones was notified in the early morning on March 19 that his son, Tim Jones, had been wounded while investigating a break-in and stolen vehicle in the 300 block of Neola Street in Park Forest, according to an NBC 5 report. William Jones says that today, his son is alert and taking it "day by day."

“Their prognosis immediately was pretty bleak and grim, but we thanked the doctors we told them doctors, do all you can and we are going to rely on God to do what he does," Jones told NBC 5.

The incident occurred when Tim Jones reported to the scene of a suspected break-in. Unbeknownst to officers, the suspect remained on the premises, the story says.

"The suspect tried to leave the house through a window and as officers attempted to detain him, he produced a handgun and began firing ... Jones was shot in the head," reports NBC 5.

Though his father says he never thought he would need to prepare himself for the day's debilitating news, he's never regretted influencing Tim to become a police officer.
