Free COVID-19 And Flu Vaccines At Chicago Heights Middle School

The event will take place on Aug. 20.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — A COVID-19 and flu vaccination event will take place at Chicago Heights Middle School on Aug. 20.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Spartan Gymnasium, 1020 Dixie Hwy, Chicago Heights.

Free COVID-19 vaccines for all 7th and 8th grade students 12-years-old and older will be available. Community members, staff, parents and family are invited to attend as well.

The Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) reports that less than half of Chicago Heights has received at least one dose of any COVID-19 vaccine.

According to the CCDPH, about 45 percent (13,624) of Chicago Heights residents have gotten at least one shot, and 34 percent (10,349) is fully vaccinated as of Saturday. Last week, 14 new cases were reported in the city, and 4,042 cases have been reported since the start of the pandemic.

The Delta Variant has increased its presence in the county, according to CCDPH. There have been a total of 138 COVID-19 cases that have detected the Delta Variant, the health department reports. In the last two weeks, 81 delta cases have been detected, spreading 55 percent more, the department reports.
