MATTESON, IL — A 34-year-old Indiana man is in custody and faces murder charges after being arrested on Friday outside of his Hammond home in connection with the fatal shootings of two people last week in Matteson, police said.

Kephren Ferguson has been charged with the killings of 20-year-old Ashiya Ogden and 16-year-old Darius Folds, both of Chicago, police said. Ferguson is awaiting extradition back to Illinois after the Cook County State’s Attorney approved the charges, officials said.

Both victims were identified by the Cook County Coroner’s Office after the two were found shot to death in a Matteson apartment on Thursday. Police said at the time they did not believe that the two victims were Matteson residents. Police had previously said that the teen was 17.

The pair was found shot to death just after 10:30 p.m. on Thursday at an apartment in the 4100 block of Lindenwood Drive. Police said that Ferguson is the boyfriend of someone who lives in the apartment and that the two victims were siblings of the roommate.

SWAT members took Ferguson into custody on Friday after a search warrant was obtained by authorities in connection with the slayings, according to the Daily Southtown. He was arrested without incident, the newspaper reported.
