'J and R Roofing' Scam Attempted on Chicago Heights Woman
Police say two men claiming to be roofers tried to swindle a woman out of thousands.

A 54-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police two men showed up at her Spruce Lane home stating they were with "J and R Roofing" and telling her she needed roof work done, according to the report.
The men said they would charge her just $60 for a can of sprayable rubber, and the woman told them to do the work, police said.
When the two were finished, they told the woman they used 60 cans and that she owed them $3,600, according to the report.

"No way!" the woman replied, before calling her brother.
The men then tried to get the woman to write them a check for $1,000, eventually dropping their price to $500. When the woman continued to refuse, the two fled the area in their maroon pick-up truck, which had a ladder attached to it, according to the report.
