Local Manufacturers Teach Bloom Students About the Trade

Students from Bloom, Bloom Trail and Richton Park high schools gathered at Bloom High School on Tuesday for a crash course on manufacturing from industry professionals.

Five companies—including Chicago Heights based F.H.Ayer Manufacturing Co. and Do-Rite Die & Engineering—visited the school to talk to kids about what it takes to enter the field of manufacturing. Later on, the kids got to tour several of the manufacturing plants.

It's all part of an effort to prep students for the "impressive skill set" needed to enter the manufacturing workforce today, according to Bloom Township High School District 206 Supt. Lenell Navarre.

“All careers in manufacturing require you to have a strong mechanical ability, computation skills, specialized and communication skills,” Navarre said. “Within each of these pathways exist numerous careers, many of which currently have high employability rates and will also provide strong preparation for future jobs not yet even in existence.”
