FRIDAY, MARCH 29
Suspicious Garage Fire
A garage in the 1600 block of Thorn Street caught fire, according to a report. Firefighters battled the small fire at about 11:30 a.m. A tenant inside the bank-owned house was alerted by a neighbor who noticed the garage was on fire. An investigator said the fire, which started near the wooden steps at the rear of the garage, was suspicious. It caused a moderate amount of damage. No one was injured.
DUI For Homewood Driver
Donald A. Barnes, 52, of the 18200 block of Hart Drive in Homewood, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08 and failure to signal, according to a report. Barnes was stopped at about 12:10 a.m. near the intersection of Center Avenue and 15th Street for changing lanes without signaling. He told an officer that he was drinking Long Island iced teas at a bar in Country Club Hills. He was arrested after taking field sobriety tests. Barnes also took a breath test while in police custody. He is due in Markham court on May 7.

THURSDAY, MARCH 28
Walgreens Theft
Someone took a $6.99 box of Durex condoms from Walgreens, 650 Dixie Hwy, according to a report. Two people came into the store at about 8:35 p.m. and wandered around. An employee spotted one person holding the box and said "Don't you want to pay for that first?" The thief then ran out of the store without paying.
