Man Drove Drunk In School Zone With His Child In Car: Park Forest PD

A 34-year-old Chicago Heights man was charged with aggravated DUI after the Nov. 29 arrest.

PARK FOREST, IL — A 34-year-old Chicago Heights man was charged with aggravated DUI, after Park Forest police said he was speeding while intoxicated at more than twice the legal limit, through a school zone with his child in the car.

Park Forest Police were conducting speed enforcement on Nov. 29, just before 8 a.m., in the area of Indiana Elementary School, after numerous complaints about cars speeding during school hours, police said.

An officer clocked one car going twice the speed limit. The driver was identified as Demarco L. Burgs, 34, of Chicago Heights, whose 9-year-old son was a passenger in the car, police said.

Police also spotted an open alcohol container was located inside the vehicle. A DUI investigation registered the man's was blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .204, more than twice the legal limit.

The Cook County State's Attorney's Office approved charges of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and aggravated driving while license is revoked, both felonies.

The man was also charged with numerous misdemeanor and petty offenses, police said.
