Police Blotter: Two Cocaine Possession Arrests on New Years Eve

DUI

David L. Vargas, 31, of the 1300 block of Park Avenue was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after he was stopped in the 1500 block of Shield Avenue for disobeying a stop sign and turning without signaling. Vargas has two passengers with him, one of which fled, according to the report. The other passenger was taken into custody along with Vargas.

Drug Possession

Doris Dumas, 48, of the 1300 block of Wentworth Avenue, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance after police found her in front of an abandoned residence in the 1500 block of Portland Avenue, according to the report. When police made contact with Dumas, she threw two bags of a substance that tested positive for cocaine on the ground and screamed, "I don't have nothin' officer, I don't have anything on me!" according to the report.

Cocaine From a Guy Named Newport

Marquita Boyd, 50, of the 200 block of Arcadia Street in Park Forest, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance after police found her in the 1500 block of Shields Avenue in the middle of the street obstructing traffic, according to the report. Upon seeing police, Boyd made her way to a nearby residence where she was met by police, according to the report. Asked if she had any illegal contraband, Boyd opened her hand to reveal two bags of a substance that tested positive for cocaine. Boyd told police, "I just got this from some guy named Newport," but after being taken into custody she remove four more bags of the same substance from the waistband of her pants, police said.

Poor Choice of Words

A 50-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police her daughter's 27-year-old ex-boyfriend had threatened to burn her house down, according to the report. The man then backtracked, telling the mother of his ex he didn't mean it.

Battery

A 22-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police that during an agument with her boyfriend, he punched her in the face, body slammed her, then kicked her several times on her body. The angry boyfriend then fled the area, according to the report. The woman refused all medical treatment, police said.

Stolen Phone

A 29-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police she had an argument with her boyfriend, who left before police arrived. After he left, the woman said she discovered her purse had been opened and her $500 phone was missing, according to the report.
