Former Joliet Diocese Bishop Joseph Imesch Dies at Age 84
Joseph Imesch led the Joliet Diocese for 27 years. When Imesch arrived, he was seen as a progressive cleric with forward-thinking ideas. By the time he retired in 2006, he was seen as a duplicitous, mean-hearted disgrace who ignored the cries of children and families preyed upon by a flock of his pedophile priests. These sex abusers manipulated and molested boys for decades, only to be transferred when complaints arose. Stationed in Joliet, Bolingbrook, Naperville, New Lenox, Hinsdale, Lombard, Downers Grove, Winfield, Warrenville, Crest Hill, Lockport, Itasca, Lombard, Park Forest and other towns, these priests cost many young boys their innocence and the Catholic Church millions of dollars. This became Imesch’s legacy, one he never really owned up to over years of questioning by lawyers in various legal proceedings.
