Steger Man Shot in Chicago Heights on New Year's Day

The man told police he was checking his fiancee's tire on Division Street when he was shot.

A 22-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police she saw a man in the 400 block of West 16th Street fire two to three shots with a silver handgun Jan. 1 around 2:08 a.m.

In a separate report, a 30-year-old Steger man told police he was near the intersection of Division Street and 16th Street seeing if his fiancee had a flat tire when he heard multiple gunshots from an unknown direction and was struck in his right elbow.

The man got back in the car with his fiancee and she drove him to St. James Hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot wound.

The report of shots fired on Division Street listed the suspect as a 20-year-old man, 5-feet, 6-inches tall, weighing between 160 and 180 pounds.

Both reports listed the incidents as occurring around 2 a.m., although the shooting victim could not confirm which direction the shots came from.
