Suspect Flees After Shots Fired, Crashes Car And Arrested Nearby: PD

The incident happened late Friday afternoon, with the shots fired call originating at 24th and Halsted streets.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL β€” A suspect was in custody Friday afternoon after fleeing a shots fired incident and crashing their car into a tree, Chicago Heights police said.

On April 25, at approximately 2 p.m., Chicago Heights Police responded to shots fired in the area of 24th St. and Halsted St. Upon arrival, officers found evidence of shots fired and were quickly able to identify a vehicle involved in the incident. A short time later, officers located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop.

The vehicle fled from police and crashed into a tree near 186th Street and Riegel Road.

An armed offender fled from the vehicle, was subsequently taken into custody with assistance from Homewood police, and the firearm was recovered. The suspect was kept in custody pending a further investigation by the Chicago Heights Police Department Investigations Division, police said late Friday.
